The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation, Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, today graced the International Human Development Conference Workshop as it marked its 10th anniversary at Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Nairobi in Westlands, Nairobi.
The conference brought together policymakers, researchers, development practitioners, academia, private sector representatives and other stakeholders to reflect on a decade of progress in advancing human development while exploring innovative solutions to emerging challenges.
In his remarks, Prof. Abdulrazak emphasized the critical role of science, research and innovation in transforming societies and improving the well-being of citizens. He noted that strategic investments in research and innovation are essential for generating knowledge, driving technological advancement and developing evidence-based solutions to address pressing social and economic challenges.
The Principal Secretary observed that the future of human development will increasingly depend on the ability of nations to harness science, technology and innovation to accelerate growth and enhance service delivery across key sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, education, environmental conservation and industry. He further highlighted the importance of strengthening research ecosystems and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that scientific discoveries translate into practical solutions that benefit communities.
As the conference celebrated ten years of promoting dialogue and collaboration on human development, participants reflected on key milestones achieved over the past decade and explored opportunities for deepening partnerships among government institutions, academia, research organizations, development partners and the private sector.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, exchange of best practices and discussions on innovative approaches to advancing human development outcomes in Kenya and beyond. Participants reaffirmed the need for continued investment in science, research and innovation as a catalyst for sustainable development, economic transformation and improved quality of life for all.
